The Cultural Diversity work group launched its “Discover Cultures” series on Friday, 24 May 2024. The first culture that students and parents were invited to discover was Greece.
“Discover Greece” consisted of a series of small workshops on traditional dances, culture and myths, the Greek language and an exhibition on Greece’s significant landmarks. Moreover, the explorers had the opportunity to taste some traditional cuisine and to experience the joyful Hellenic spirit with dance & live music. This event was the first of its kind, designed to assist families in acknowledging and appreciating the diverse cultures of our community.
“Our goal was to foster connections and unite the families of our school as they explore diversity together. We tried to create an immersive experience where children can discover Greek culture in a fun way with their parents. Discover Greece is the first event, and hopefully we’ll have the opportunity to discover in this way more cultures that are present in the school,” said Eva-Maria Naessens, an active member of the Cultural Diversity Group, the principal organizer of the event and mother of Roberto (P4EN) and Evalyna (P1EN).
The event was organized by the Cultural Diversity group with strong support from native Greek parents and grandparents of EELM’s community, alongside friends from the local Greek community of Lille.
